Nashville Hot Turkey
Nashville Hot Chicken recipe. Can be used for chicken, wild turkey, or even fish.
Hot Pepper Oil Ingredients:
5 TBSP Cayenne Powder
1 TBSP Brown Sugar
1 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Paprika
1 Cup Vegetable Oil
Hot Pepper Oil Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a small pot or saucepan. Stir thoroughly with a whisk.
Heat mixture on medium heat until the mixture starts to simmer.
Reduce to low heat, stir mixture frequently while simmering for 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow flavors to infuse while you prepare the meat.
Turkey Ingredients:
One whole wild turkey breast, trimmed
One egg, slightly beaten
Lefty's Chicken n Fish mix, or any seasoned flour of your choice.
Vegetable or Peanut Oil
White Bread, Pickles (optional)
Turkey Preparation:
Slice turkey breast across the grain into 1/2" thick strips.
Toss turkey strips in egg to evenly coat the meat.
Roll turkey strips in seasoned flour. If you desire, repeat steps 2 & 3 for a thicker, crunchier crust.
Heat oil to 350º F in a deep fryer, stovetop pot, or electric fryer. A deep fry thermometer is recommended.
Fry turkey until golden brown on the outside, solid white on the inside, 165º F internal temp.
Place turkey strips over sliced white bread.
Use a basting brush to baste the turkey with the hot oil. Garnish with pickles if desired.
NOTE:
Oil recipe will make enough oil for multiple batches of turkey. You can save leftover oil in a container in the fridge or freezer for later use.
